Location and classification
Ebersberg is an officially designated single-vineyard site in the municipality of Bodenheim and in the cadastral district of Bodenheim. The wine-growing area belongs to the sub-region Nierstein and to the large vineyard of Sankt Alban. It lies at around 110 to 130 metres above sea level and is oriented to the east.
Soil and area data
The documented soil consists of loess over pararendzina. It is described as a calcareous, deep, light loam with clayey silty components. In the vineyard directory of Rhineland-Palatinate, Ebersberg is listed under number 720902; for the cadastral district of Bodenheim, 5.8 hectares of planted vineyard area are recorded.
History
The wine-growing site was documented in 1297 under the name Erweybohele. The local historical interpretation traces the name back to the earlier cultivation of peas on the hill.
Wines and vinification
For Ebersberg, vineyard-specific wines from Riesling and Weißburgunder are documented, including a Bodenheim Ebersberg Riesling Spätlese and a 2022 vintage of Bodenheim Ebersberg Weißburgunder. The regional site profile describes yellow fruit, apple, peach, pear and citrus, as well as a rather lighter body, refreshing acidity and medium structure. The 2022 vintage of the Weißburgunder was matured in a double cask and stored for longer on the lees; chemical additives to prevent the formation of tartar were, according to the producer, not used.
