Location
Brückchen is a classified single-vineyard site in the Nierstein area and within the Großlage of Spiegelberg. It is located in the cadastral area of Nierstein, within the municipality of Nierstein in Rheinhessen.
Altitude and soils
The wine-growing site lies at around 90 to 100 metres above sea level. Documented are loess-influenced Pararendzina as well as Pararendzina formed from marl. The loess soil is calcareous, deep and loamy, with good water-storage capacity available to plants and good root penetration. The marl soil consists of calcareous loams and sands from tertiary marine deposits and is characterised by being deep, strongly calcareous and by clay with restricted drainage and aeration.
Grape variety and wine profile
From Brückchen, Riesling is documented in wines from the estate J. & H. A. Strub. The loess-influenced soil is associated with fresh, slim wines with gentle acidity and notes of yellow fruits, apple, peach, pear and citrus. The marl-influenced soil stands for fuller-bodied wines with balanced acidity and intense fruit; for white wines, aromas of tropical fruit, honey melon and apricot are also described.
