Frauenberg

Frauenberg is a single-vineyard site in Nieder-Flörsheim, a district of Flörsheim-Dalsheim in the Wonnegau sub-region of Rheinhessen. The site belongs to the Großlage Burg Rodenstein.

Classified as a VDP single-vineyard, Frauenberg lies in the upper, steeper parts of an otherwise comparatively flat vineyard and slopes down to the south-east towards Nieder-Flörsheim. The areas are around 190 to 270 metres above sea level and have a slope gradient of 10 to 40 per cent. The documented soils include Muschelkalk, limestone, loess, clay and marl.

The south-easterly exposure combines warmth with cooling winds and creates a microclimate with a long ripening period. The classified area comprises 15.05 hectares. As classified grape varieties, Riesling, Chardonnay and Spätburgunder are listed; in Frauenberg, Riesling and Pinot Noir vines have also been documented.

Frauenberg, Nieder-Flörsheim, is classified in Rheinhessen as VDP.GROSSE LAGE® (Great Site). Dry wines from VDP.GROSSE LAGE® vineyards are referred to as VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS®; for Rheinhessen, Pinot Noir is permitted in this category. The site was first mentioned in 1290 under the name “an frauwenhalten” and originally belonged to a convent. The Frauenberg GG 2017 by Klaus-Peter Keller is listed as Pinot Noir.
