Im Sonnenschein

In sunshine, a vineyard site in Siebeldingen in the Palatinate. It lies on the slopes of the Queich valley, which face south. The sub-area classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE® is at a height of about 160 to 220 metres, with a gradient of 5 to 20 percent and a south to south-west orientation.

The south-facing site receives sunlight over large parts of the day. The Queich valley can also bring sunshine to the site in the evening, when the surrounding vineyards are already in the shade. Shell limestone shapes the area of the VDP.GROSSE LAGE®; in the further vineyard, there are also deposits transported from the Queich through the Palatinate Forest, comprising sand, sandstone, gravel and loam.

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® comprises the original areas Berg and Im Sonnenschein within the single site Im Sonnenschein. It is classified for Riesling, Weißer Burgunder and Spätburgunder. The Im Sonnenschein GG by Ökonomierat Rebholz is a dry Riesling according to the VDP classification system.

The VDP-classified area comprises 31 hectares, while the entire single site is described as approximately 100 hectares. The grapes for a VDP.GROSSE LAGE® are harvested selectively by hand at physiological ripeness; the maximum permitted yield is 50 hectolitres per hectare. The wines are produced exclusively using traditional production methods and are subject to additional controls in the vineyard, in yields and to sensory tastings before and after bottling.
