Location and context
The Königsbacher Ölberg lies at the edge of the town of Königsbach in the Palatinate, in a sheltered position. The vineyard site is classified as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®.
Topography and soils
The site, facing south-east, is at an altitude of around 130 to 190 metres. Its slope is 3 to 15 per cent. The documented soils include sandy loam, loamy sand and calcareous marl; the Pinot Noir parcel also has sandstone and limestone in the soil.
Grape varieties and area
The classified Ölberg comprises 25.64 hectares. The classified grape varieties recorded are Riesling and Spätburgunder.
Wine from the Ölberg
The Ölberg Pinot Noir by Von Winning is a dry Spätburgunder from the site. It is described as fine, elegant, full-bodied and fresh with its acidity.
