Ranschbach

Location and surroundings

Ranschbach is a wine-growing village in the Pfalz. The village lies on the German Wine Route at the edge of the Haardt, next to the Palatinate Forest.

Seligmacher vineyard site

The Seligmacher vineyard site is located in the Ranschbach valley around Ranschbach. Part of the site is on the sunny south slope of the Kastanienbusch and is in places relatively steep. The stony soils are linked with Rotliegend and Buntsandstein; in addition, a geological Rotliegend subsoil is described.

Classification and cultivation

Ranschbacher Seligmacher is classified as a steep site, whose steep plots are difficult to cultivate. A sub-area of 14.58 hectares is classified in the Pfalz as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®. For the VDP vineyard designation, Riesling is specified. The grapes are selectively hand-harvested.

Riesling from Seligmacher

The documented Ranschbacher Seligmacher Riesling is produced dry and shows spicy citrus fruit, structured acidity, and a salty mineral finish. Cellar work includes gentle whole-cluster pressing, limited pre-clarification, spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, and ageing in stainless steel.
