Location and soil
The Oberschwappach Sommertal is oriented to the south-southwest and covers 15.58 hectares. The vineyard site has Gipskeuper soil.
Grape varieties and winegrowing
In the vineyard site, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Grüner Silvaner, Scheurebe, Weißer Burgunder, Regent, Domina, Blauer Silvaner, Blauer Spätburgunder, Dornfelder, Cabernet Dorsa and Müllerrebe as well as Schwarzriesling are cultivated. A winegrower based in Oberschwappach describes regular vine care, work on healthy grapes, and an airy canopy of leaves.
History and harvest
The Ebrach monastery already owned vineyards in the Sommertal in the 13th century. Later, a summer residence of the Cistercian abbey was established there. During the grape harvest, the grapes are picked by hand, loaded into a mash cart and then pressed promptly at the winegrower’s premises.
