Trimberg

Location and administrative affiliation

Trimberg is a district of the market town of Elfershausen in the district of Bad Kissingen, in Franconia. Elfershausen with Trimberg lies between Hammelburg and Bad Kissingen on the southern edge of the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park. Since 1 April 1971, Trimberg has belonged to Elfershausen.

History

The settlement developed in connection with the Trimburg, which served as the administrative centre of the former office of Trimberg. Trimberg is also regarded as the birthplace and home of the poet Süßkind von Trimberg, who worked in the second half of the 13th century.

Geology and viticulture

In Trimberg, exposures of the Upper Buntsandstein are documented. On the footpath from Engenthal to the Trimburg, there is an exposure in the boundary area between the Upper Buntsandstein and the Lower Muschelkalk.

Vineyard sites

The Franconian vineyard register lists the Schloßberg as a vineyard site in Trimberg. It belongs to the large vineyard area of Burg and to the Frankens Saalestück area. Historical records mention vineyards in Trimberg since 1308 and 1358 respectively; a description also reports around 3.12 hectares of planted vineyard area, as well as the vineyard areas Alte Eller, Rotberg and Mauers.
