Location and landscape
Simmershofen is a municipality in Middle Franconia in the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim and belongs to the region Franconia. The municipal area covers 34.20 km² and is assigned to the Gollachgau and the Steinach valley.
Topography
In the area of Simmershofen-Adelhofen there is a precipitation measurement station of the German Weather Service at 337 metres above sea level.
History and monuments
Hohenlohe was the dominant local power up until the 14th century. Later, the area had links to rule or territories associated with Hohenzollern and Brandenburg-Ansbach. A archival document dated 6 August 1420 discusses the transfer of half the tithe to Simmershofen, together with the associated rights, as a fief.
In the municipal area, prehistoric and Neolithic settlements are recorded, along with findspots from the Bronze Age, the Urnfield period, the Hallstatt period and the La Tène period. At the Protestant parish church of St. Michael and Crispin, medieval and early modern archaeological findings are also documented.
