Location and landscape
Saint-Vincent-de-Pertignas is a commune in the Entre-Deux-Mers area in the Gironde department on the left bank of the Dordogne. It belongs to the wine region Bordeaux. The municipal territory includes a limestone plateau, wooded slopes, side valleys and the Dordogne floodplain. The plateau reaches about 88 metres, the village lies at around 65 metres and the northern plain falls to approximately 2 metres.
Climate and soils
The climate is described as temperate and inland. Winters are relatively cool and rainy, but not harsh; around 2,000 hours of sunshine are recorded each year. Average temperatures are 5 to 7 °C in January and 19 to 21 °C in July and August. On the plateau, among other things, limestone from Entre-Deux-Mers is found, fossil-bearing limestones as well as clays and sands. In the Dordogne plain, alluvial sands, gravels and clays predominate.
Vine growing and appellations
Vine growing is the commune’s most important agricultural activity. For 2010, around 387 to 390 hectares of vineyard area are given, about half of the commune’s territory. Nearly the entire commune lies within the AOC areas of Entre-Deux-Mers, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur and Crémant de Bordeaux; the planted vineyard areas are located within these zones.
Château Le Pin Beausoleil
The Château Le Pin Beausoleil cultivates a gently sloping plot in Saint-Vincent-de-Pertignas on a ridge above the Dordogne. The site, characterised by seabed sediment, lies at around 71 to 84 metres above sea level and is covered with 20 to 60 centimetres of iron-rich red clay. The varieties grown there are Merlot, Cabernet Franc and, to a smaller extent, Cabernet Sauvignon. From the plots, which belong to Saint-Vincent-de-Pertignas, red Bordeaux Supérieur wines are produced, which for this site are described as having intense colour, firm tannins, lively acidity and a long finish.
