Location and landscape
Repperndorf is a district of Kitzingen in the Kitzingen district, Lower Franconia, Bavaria. The place lies about three kilometres north-west of the centre of Kitzingen on the Repperndorfer Mühlbach, which flows into the Main at Kitzingen. Repperndorf belongs to the region Franconia.
Topography and climate
The place is situated on the high plateaus of the southern Main triangle, which are part of the landscape of the Gäuflächen. The plateaus, roughly 300 metres high, slope steeply down to the Main. Repperndorf is located in the Main area climate zone, which is one of the warmer climate regions of Germany.
Vine-growing
Repperndorf is a wine-growing site in the Franconian quality wine-growing region and belongs to the MainSüden area as well as the Großlage Kitzinger Hofrat. The shell limestone soils of the surrounding area are suitable for wine-growing. The Repperndorf section of the Kaiser Karl wine site covers 33 hectares, is oriented to the south-west and has a slope gradient of 15 to 25 percent. The most important grape varieties recorded are Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau.
History
Repperndorf was first mentioned in the 11th century as landed property belonging to the Benedictine nuns’ monastery of Kitzingen. Wine-growing has been documented in the area since the early Middle Ages. Since the 1970s, the Repperndorf wine has been marketed under the name Repperndorfer Kaiser Karl. On 1 January 1978, the municipality was incorporated into Kitzingen.
