Location and vineyards landscape
O n s d o r f is a small locality strongly shaped by agriculture in the north-western Saar region and lies in a valley basin. To the west of the road to Tawern, in the cadastral areas of Meyersberg and Wingertsberg, there are vineyards that belong to the municipality’s vineyards landscape.
Single vineyard Hubertusberg
The Hubertusberg is an officially listed single vineyard (Einzellage) of the Mosel in the Obermosel area and within the Großlage Gipfel. For Onsdorf, it is registered under the vineyard site number 420113. The 2024 vineyard register lists 9.5 hectares of planted vineyard area there.
History and regional foundations
The vineyards in Meyersberg and Wingertsberg formed around 1900 a centre for the reintroduction of viticulture, after it had been interrupted for more than 100 years. The replanted vineyard area was given as approximately 65 hectares. The Obermosel is characterised by Muschelkalk, marl and Keuper; the geological forms include dolomite formations from marine limestone deposits. In the southern Mosel vineyards, Elbling is the leading traditional white wine grape variety, while Burgundian varieties there account for almost 30 percent of the planted area.
