Location and landscape
Möckmühl is located in the Jagst valley at the confluence of the Jagst and the Seckach and belongs to Württemberg. The municipal area covers about 49.61 km² and extends from around 165 metres in the Jagst valley to just under 350 metres in the surrounding highlands.
Geological subsoil
The Jagst and Seckach have cut deep into the surrounding Muschelkalk high plateau. The Jagst valley is comparatively broad near Möckmühl. In addition to Muschelkalk, Lettenkeuper occurs in higher areas and, locally, especially in hollows, Löss and Löss loam.
Viticulture
In sunny slopes, viticulture in the Möckmühl area is still present. Some older vineyard plots have been abandoned and are overgrown; in some places, historical rows of stones are preserved. The Möckmühl winegrowers’ association supports the preservation and promotion of viticulture as part of the cultural landscape.
Hofberg vineyard site
Hofberg is documented as a Württemberg single vineyard site with reference to Möckmühl. The plot name Hofberg is also listed on a cadastral map from 1834 for Möckmühl and Ruchsen. A municipal notice dated 20 July 2026 also records changes to the classification of large vineyard areas: the former large vineyard area Kocherberg was assigned to the Württembergisch Unterland area, merged with the Lindelberg large vineyard area and renamed Hohenlohe as a large vineyard area.
