Location and History
Markt Einersheim is located in the eastern part of the Kitzingen district in Franconia, in the Hellmitzheimer Bay at an altitude of about 290 metres. The municipality covers around 774 hectares. Markt Einersheim was first mentioned in a document in 1023; in 1542 the village was granted market rights.
Landscape and Viticulture
About 50 hectares of the municipal area are vineyards. The Schlossberg saddle with its steep slope and adjacent areas has been designated as a nature reserve. Viticulture has been documented since 1248 and remains an important local economic activity to this day.
Vogelsang
The Vogelsang vineyard site Vogelsang in Markt Einersheim comprises south to south-easterly steep sites and is cultivated on gypsum Keuper soils. Under the Bavarian wine designation regulations, Vogelsang is assigned to the municipality of Markt Einersheim; the Mönchshütte site, by contrast, is assigned to Iphofen.
Grape Varieties and Cellar Work
As the most important local grape varieties, the municipality names Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Bacchus; in addition, red wine is produced. For the vineyards in Markt Einersheim, Kerner, White Burgundy, Fontanara, Johanniter, Blue Spätburgunder, Domina and Regent are also documented. Farming is carried out in an environmentally conscious and nature-close manner according to information provided by the local winery. The wines are grown separately by variety in modern cellars and bottled in standard bottles or Bocksbeuteln; they are described as fruit-forward and typical of the variety.
