Location and landscape
Lautenbach is a municipality in the Rench valley in the Central Black Forest and lies in the Black Forest National Park region between Strasbourg and Freudenstadt. The landscape includes forests, meadows, vineyards and higher-lying areas; within the municipality, the Sohlberg rises.
Viticulture and agriculture
Vineyards and orchards shape the surroundings of Lautenbach, which is described as a fertile agricultural landscape with vines and orchards. Lautenbach belongs to the legally defined single vineyard Renchtäler in the Ortenau area.
Historical development
Historically, Lautenbach developed as a scattered settlement of individual farms. The Nußbacher Hof has been documented since 994. The Allerheiligen monastery, founded between 1191 and 1196, became the largest landowner in the area of today’s municipality through purchases and donations. The Lautenbach estate has been documented since 1233 and gave its name to the political municipality founded in the 19th century.
