Location and landscape
Frankenwinheim is located in Bavaria between the foothills of the Steigerwald and the Main valley. The municipality belongs to the wine-growing region Franken and includes vineyards in the location Frankenwinheimer Rosenberg.
Geology and climate
Frankenwinheim lies in the hydrogeological unit Unterkeuper. The wine-growing region of Franken shows a transition from a moderately cool suboceanic to a subcontinental climate. Characteristic are dry, hot summers and an average annual precipitation of less than 550 millimetres.
Viticulture
The Rosenberg is the documented vineyard site of Frankenwinheim and is assigned in the vineyard register to the wine-growing area Volkacher Mainschleife. According to the local historical account, vines were planted there again in 1956. At the Frankenwinheim wine festivals, Silvaner and Rotling are traditionally served.
History
Frankenwinheim was first mentioned in 779 in a record about a grant of property to the Fulda monastery.
