Location and landscape
Chamery is a commune in the Marne department in the Champagne region Champagne. It lies at the foot of the Montagne de Reims near Reims and forms part of the arrondissement of Reims as well as the canton of Fismes-Montagne de Reims. The commune includes around 200 hectares of vineyards and 130 hectares of woodland.
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyard forms an amphitheatre- or circus-shaped slope area delimited by forest, with some steep vineyards. The soils vary from sandy soils on the lower slopes to sandy-loamy soils in the middle of the slope, through to clayey-limestone soils close to the forest. The climate of the Champagne wine-growing region is influenced by both oceanic and continental conditions, with an average annual temperature of about 11 °C.
Premier Cru and grape varieties
Chamery’s vineyard is classified as a Premier Cru and covers around 205 hectares, which are cultivated by around 100 winegrowers. Roughly 41 per cent Pinot Meunier, 29 per cent Pinot Noir and 30 per cent Chardonnay are planted. Chamery is one of the communes approved for the Premier Cru designation of Champagne.
