Location and landscape
Buchbrunn is a municipality in the district of Kitzingen in Lower Franconia, Bavaria, within the landscape of the southern Main triangle. The village is situated on the high plateaus in the southern Main triangle, whose central areas are relatively level and whose edges fall steeply down to the Main valley.
Vineyard Heißer Stein
The Heißer Stein vineyard is an officially registered single-vineyard site in the Franconian quality winegrowing region and is assigned to the MainSüden area. The soils are described as being made of shell limestone and loam, and as stony and dry. The current name came about in 1971 through the merger of seven smaller vineyard plots around Buchbrunn.
Grape varieties and wines
For the vineyards on Heißer Stein, Müller-Thurgau and Bacchus are documented. The proven wines from Buchbrunn include dry Silvaner, dry Scheurebe and a late-ripening red wine (Spätburgunder) Qualitätswein.
History of winegrowing
Buchbrunn was first mentioned in documents in 1244 and came to Bavaria in 1814. Winegrowing has been documented there at least since 1378. In the 19th century, Johann Wilhelm Meuschel of Buchbrunn developed wine trading from there and transported Franconian wine beyond the region.
