Boos

Location and landscape

Boos is a municipality in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate and lies in the wine-growing region Nahe. The town is surrounded by vineyards and forests.

Geology

On the slopes to the north-west of Boos there are sandstone quarries. Sandstone is documented there as rock extracted locally.

Kastell vineyard site

The individual vineyard site Kastell is listed in the Nahe register of wine sites under number 511340 with Boos as the associated municipality. In the cadastral area of Boos it covers 2.6 hectares; a further 7.2 hectares lie in Waldböckelheim. Most of the vineyard site is located there and adjoins Boos.

History and archaeology

Boos was first mentioned in a document from the year 1128, which confirmed the holdings of the Disibodenberg abbey. The documented ownership in Boos is associated with a gift from the year 976. Beneath the church, archaeological remains of a Roman villa rustica from the second and third centuries AD have survived. Preserved, among other things, are vaulted underground rooms and connecting passages.
